Capturing SOCRATE for an application

SOCRATE is only captured if a maximum SOCRATE has been specified in the NSD for AORs. It is kept for reads() regardless of whether or not the maximum is specified in the NSD, however you will not see the information with the ZSOCK SOCRATE displays (HIGH/EXCEEDED) unless a maximum has been specified.

SOCRATE information is also only available for the life of the socket, so if the information is not displayed before the socket is closed that information is lost.

Currently there is no easy way to capture the maximum SOCRATE information for an application.

Based on effort and priority, IBM does not intend to implement this in the foreseeable future.

Capturing the SOCRATE information for an application isn't really going to tell us much. What we'd really like to know is are we reaching capacity on an individual socket, like buffers becoming full, zero windows, etc. For this the socket monitor user exit can be used.
