RELFC API for ALL DB Managers

TPFUG_Req_Number: D08002S
ORIGIN DATE: March 25th, 2008
REQUIREMENT ABSTRACT : IBM database managers should be able to support the new RELFC functionality to check IDs prior to release. Where a database manager allows the user to determine the processing characteristics associated with a structure, the required RELFC behavior should be able to be set by the user. Each database manager must also respect the various levels of control possible for the RELFC id checking tool that are set at a system-wide.

REQUIREMENT DESCRIPTION :

• Part of the RELFC API requirement allows an application to determine whether ID checking is done at RELFC time. If an application uses IBM provided database managers TPFCS, the TPF file system or the Pool File System, RELFC is the responsibility of the database manager, not the application.
• For IBM provided database managers that do not allow the user to define characteristics associated with the structure, the RELFC id-checking behavior should be able to be set at the database manager level.
• For IBM provided database managers that do allow the user to define characteristics associated with the structure, the RELFC id-checking behavior required should be able to be set by the user.
• The RELFC id checking tool can be controlled (turned on or off) in a number of ways system-wide, including control by pool type and record ID. Implementation of support for RELFC id checking by all the afore-mentioned IBM provided database managers should ensure each system-wide control can be respected.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
Product family - z Systems Software
    Product - z/TPF

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - WebSphere
    Product family - Transaction Processing
    Product - z/TPF

While IBM believes the idea to be sound, we do not intend to do this in the foreseeable future.
