IBM Z Software

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Integrate TPFDF Data Collection and reporting

TPFUG_Req_Number: DF00165
Contact Originator Id: jack.opgenorth@eds.com
Abstract: Integrate DF data collection and reporting into overall IBM performance collection and reporting utilities as a selectable option.
Description: The current DF data collection package limits proactive TPFDF database analysis. The utility to capture the metrics collected with the current utility should be integrated into the IBM data collection packages so that data transport and reporting of DF metrics can managed more comprehensively. This integration should be done such that the DF collector can be engaged as a distinct option within the standard data collection options. In addition, the option to collect DF metrics should coexist with other existing TPF data collection and Continuous data collection options. Sampling the DF data may be appropriate and encouraged as a means to reduce the overhead associated with the collection process.
Critical Success Factors: Bulk transfer medium of DF collection data must include z/OS as one of the suitable processing platforms for this data.

TPF/AR should not be the only transport medium provided.

Collection overhead should be minimized.

Reporting should include summary of overall TPFDF data as well as more detailed reporting of metrics by physical record.

DF data collection options for collecting and reporting should consider sampling.
Solution Considerations: Migration to the integrated IBM data collection (including DF) or the continuous data collection package that integrates DF collection metrics must not require TPFDF.
