IBM Z Software

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

Add TPFDF data to Continuous Data Collection

Currently we have no active monitoring of the TPFDF Databases and their performance. Part of the difficulty is lack of adequate real-time and archival tools to provide current and historical data for monitoring and determining trends. The tools that we do have are system wide for TPF and geared more towards hardware resources and system level performance monitoring. Having current and historically data on TPFDF applications and databases will allow more active monitoring and preventive action as against reactive trouble-shooting when problems occur.

IBM have provided a good solution to help with active monitoring and proactive intervention. However, this tool does not include TPFDF data collection information or provide any additional insights on TPFDF activity. The TPFDF performance data is strictly online and the ability to maintain historical data is quite limited. The CDC tool and process needs to be enhanced to include TPFDF as another product or environment to monitor and report on.

First requirement is to include the existing TPFDF data collection (ZUDFC) in the dataset that CDC transfers to TIVOLI. Since this data is collected on a periodic basis and not continuously, so CDC can detect when it has been updated and only send the most current information. It is not necessary to keep sending the same data over and over again if nothing has changed.

The second requirement is to allow TPFDF collection to be included in real-time with CDC data when the data collection is active. This data includes per second totals, which can be useful helpful in detecting spikes and problem areas in real-time. The total activity accumulator likewise can be helpful especially after an implementation to detect the impact of the change.

The third requirement would be to extend the range of the TPFDF data collection to include more categories of data, for example by program and transaction. Any such enhancements should also be include in the CDC data transfers for monitor and offline archiving.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
Product family - z Systems Software
    Product - z/TPF

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - WebSphere
    Product family - Transaction Processing
    Product - z/TPF
