IBM Z Software

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

Calculation of Message Existence Time

Customer finds message existence time useful in tracking performance. Existence time is mean ecb's inuse/message rate. For example mean 500 ecb's inuse to process 5000 msg/sec means message existence time is 100 mils.
IBM does report ecb's inuse and message rate. The problem is that the ecb's inuse include both long life ecb's and worker ecb's. We really only want to calculate existence time for the ecb's that process the message, the worker ecb's.
Possible solutions are to count long life ecb's, such as ‘listener' ecb's, so we can subtract them out from calculation to provide an accurate message existence time. We would need a user exit to be able to identify/count local long life ecb's.
In above example if there are 250 long life ecb's, existence time would be (500-250)/5000 which is now 50 mils.

PJ44591 (Dynamic CPU support) enhanced data collection and reduction to report the number of long life ECBs. These are ECBs that have an existence time of more than 5 seconds.

Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
Product family - z Systems Software
    Product - z/TPF

For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - WebSphere
    Product family - Transaction Processing
    Product - z/TPF
