ZRTMC Results Monitor

The ZRTMC analytics pipeline is made up of several components and can be configured to send several different types of data. An individual component could fail and cause data to not be available, or a specific type of data may not be available. As more features are added, it becomes more and more involved to know when the ZRTMC monitoring and analytics is failing to send or analyze data.

It is desirable to add to the ZRTMC analytics pipeline a “results monitor”. Its purpose is to monitor that the expected ZRTMC results are arriving and alert the administrators when failures occur. This will speed the resolution of any issues.

The solution should include the following features discussed with customers:

  • Make it highly configurable and flexible to handle monitoring all types of data and analytics.

  • Monitor the data arriving in the DB is from the desired systems, results appearing for each desired data type in the table/column at the configured intervals. Include thresholds that trigger alerts.

  • Start with a CRON job? Less concerns about a long running process dying and detecting it.

  • Configurable for monitoring back up DBs. Maybe it should pick up these DB values from the ZRTMC analyzer profile.

  • Log a history of the monitor running and what it detected as running or not running. As such this table will also need some pruning (configurable interval by count of days to retain, etc).

  • Python is a desirable framework for implementing the ZRTMC results monitor.

  • Make it very open so it can plug into other solutions. For example, maybe a user exit so that it can log data into another database or monitoring solution.

  • Make if very flexible for what kinds of alerts can be implemented. For example, a user exit where anything can be implemented (slack, teams, email, text, etc).

  • Include a sample dashboard to show and filter monitoring results.

  • Implement a secondary monitor that looks at the results monitor log to verify the results monitor is running successfully. If errors are detected send an alert.
