Enhanced multi-segment message support in IMS service provider for z/OS Connect

IMS supports multi-segment input and output messages. A lot of IMS transactions are using this functionality - especially for output messages. The amount of segments can be large and they can have different structures.

Actually the multi-segment message support in z/OS Connect is rudimental. There is no way to define how often message segments in a specific structure are being repeated. Please add support for repetition of message structures. Please keep in mind that the number of message segments in a specific structure may vary.

Whilst this requirement is valid, based on our current plans and priorities for IBM z/OS Connect Enterprise Edition, it is not likely that this could be implemented in the next 12 months. Correspondingly this requirement is being declined at this point. The requirement will be kept in the RFE system and might be reassessed in the future. You also have an opportunity to resubmit in twelve months time if you wish it to be reconsidered then.

    Hello,

I got some feedback from one of our customers for one of the transactions which may need to be accessed through z/OS Connect somewhen next year. This transaction has an output message with the following structure:

1 message segment with structure A,
1 message segment with structure B,
arbitrary amount of message segments with structure C,
arbitrary amount of message segments with structure D

Besides this I am still waiting for feedback from other customers.

    Best regards,
    Robert.

    Hello,

I will question all of our customers whether they have such multi-segment messages. This will take at least a few weeks.

Currently I cannot test the support in z/OS Connect V3.0.2, because I am still waiting for the software order. As soon as I will get the chance, I will test the multi-segment message of this version with one of my PoC transactions.

    Best regards,
    Robert.

Thank you for your RFE submission. Recent functional enhancements delivered in z/OS Connect EE V3 may have provided enough capability to satisfy this requirement.

Can you please confirm whether or not your scenario would ever have a variable-number of repeating segments, followed by either a fixed number of repeating segments, or another variable-number of different repeating segments?

z/OS Connect V3.0.2 can support a variable number of repeating segments provided it is the last repeating structure in the message.
