Apply default values defined for optional queryParameters from openapi3 document when the parameters are missing on the incoming API request

when using z/OS Connect Designer 3.0.99, the default values defined in OpenAPI 3 document for optional query parameters are not being automatically applied when the parameters are missing from the incoming request, forcing you to use JSONata expressions as a workaround. The zosConnect product does not automatically inject the default values from the OpenAPI specification into the request processing pipeline when a parameter is not provided.

This helps developers with ease of development by avoiding to code unnecessary JSONata expressions, just to check if the query parameter is present or not and then apply a default value for the field in that expression.

Hi @Guest, I understand your frustration, we are trying to give you an honest view of what our Roadmap is for 2026 and unfortunately this is not something we will get to within this time period. However we will continue to consider it in the future.

This IDEA has been assessed by the team. Today JSONata expressions can check if the query parameter is present, for more information please visit the "Sample JSONata expressions" topic on our docs .

Whilst the solution available in the product today is slightly different to the approach suggested in this IDEA and we recognise that there are improvements to be made to the mapping capabilities this is not something that we will resolve within a year. As such this IDEA is being closed.

If you have any further requirements in addition to the capability that exists today, we would welcome another IDEA.
