performance improvement for zd&t

Customers found zd&t very slow particularly running Java/WAS workloads. They asked that zd&t be changed to support more than 1 channel so that more than 1 concurrent i/o could be run if the Linux disk subsystem supported it.

Thank you for taking the time to suggest an enhancement to our product.
This feature is now available as part of the IBM Z Development and Test Environment 12.0.3.0 release.
    Product web page: https://www.ibm.com/us-en/marketplace/z-systems-development-test-environment
    Fix List: https://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27044017

There are known performance issues when running JAVA based applications under an Emulator, particularly on JVM start up.

There should be some performance improvements when using zPDT GA-9 depending on the instruction set generated by the JAVA byte op conversion. The zPDT Redbook has been updated for GA-9 and includes a number of performance optimization hints and tips which should help.

The updated Redbook can be found here (IBM zPDT Guide and Reference): http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg248205.html

The zPDT team is working with the JAVA run time technologies team and JAVA application teams to optimize for the emulation environment. This is a longer term effort that should produce improvements, however JAVA performance under zPDT/zDT is always going to be significantly slower than on z hardware.

Thank you for submitting this RFE. This is consistent with our plans for the product and will be prioritized for future consideration.
