Simplified mechanism for surfacing GDPS operational alerts

There are 100's or more of Warning and Error level messages that GDPS will display based on ecosystem issues. Not every message needs immediate vs delayed attention. We would like to see an easily customizable mechanism for selectively surfacing “unexpected” operational alerts. Today, we use Netview userexit to email all GDPS Warnings and Errors to support teams, but the volume, and repetitive nature of the messages are not conducive for use to notify our Operations staff for off-hours notifications. There should be “priority” Errors that need immediate attention(now), vs delayed attention(business hours). Additionally, there should be mechanisms in place to suppress GDPS warnings/errors during planned activities (IPL’s, hardware maintenance, etc) to eliminate “false alerts”.

Priority low because we have an own solution to filter GDPS messages and alerts.

Wil definitively be useful to avoid flooding the night staff with irrelevant alerts. Medium priority seems adequate.

GDPS message processing today is not easy to manage. Critical messages are forwarded to an alert console and the operator has to acknowledge the alert. If this is a repetitive message this can lead to frustration. It's a good idea to tell GDPS to suppress repetitive messages once it has been acknowleged as long as the error ist still shownon the SDF panel.

Message management for the recovery region in 4-site needs to be considered as well. we are currently usung a supression mechanism created by another account, but it should be part of GDPS design to knw when a region is active or recovery.

We have in-house arrangements, but yes, an IBM provided solution would be helpful.

When all customers need to invent their own solutions for monitoring GDPS environment, it will for sure be helpful if it is already done at the source.

GDPS message management is a challenge for us too so this is a good idea. It would be useful to be able to manage and suppress messages with a load of a NETVIEW message table or MPF change for suppression etc. We sometimes have days of repetitive alerts due to GDPS monitoring due to a small problem which we are aware of and would like to change/suppress/remove these messages in an easy way for the duration of the problem.

Message management/alerting is a challenging issue for us as well. And not just for GDPS as many components can produce way too many messages for email.
