LCP - Some warning should show up in a script in case you do LCP recover from a Partial Backup

LCP captures/Safe Guarded Copy are immutable copies/backups. So we better make sure that these backups are complete - not missing a volume or more.

When you start a IBM z Cybervault sysplex, i call it a recovery sysplex, manually or full automated it is really important to know the state of the volumes you IPL on.

The partial backups are registered and visible in the VPCPLCS0 panel.

If one or  more volumes are internally rolled off, it is monitored and reported back via the monitor interval you define yourself  - in the SafeGuard Management Profile(panel VPCPMPMS).

If you  browse through all the volumes on your selected capture, you can also manually find the volumes/UCB's that will be missed in case you recover from the chosen LCP capture.

But all above is manually handling and should be at least semi-automated.

You start up the recovery sysplex for validations. So if your capture is incomplete the quality of the validation can truly be questioned, time consuming and in worst case cause wrong decisions related to data validation.

My suggestion is that IBM automate the manual process.

Maybe my giving us an added parameter in the LCP RECOVER script statement or a new statement,  where you:

1. Tells us what volumes we miss on this specific recover(volser/device)

2. Give us an option to terminate the recover

On top I suggest you give us an general option where we state "Accept recover from a Partial Backup? YES/NO."

Very crucial you have all volumes included in recovery. Good suggestion.
