Enhance GDPS MGM 3site to support IPLs in Recovery region

In a MGM 3-site environment, major blocker with automating the region switch would be to IPL lpars in Recovery region. Since there is no Kp lpar in Recovery region, shutdown cannot be done from current Kr in recovery region. Only LOAD can be performed. By enabling Kr to have an added functionality to support lpars shutdown and other sysplex activities or by providing a Kp option in the recovery region, it would really help in automating MGM 3-site region switch and other activities.

    After giving the request a comprehensive review, we have determined that we cannot include it as a candidate in an upcoming release because it is not consistent with the product architecture and our strategy for future releases. GDPS MGM3SITE was designed for out-of-region DR (including on-demand DR testing); not for region switching, GDPS MGM4SITE was designed for DR (including region switching).

    Worldpay runs MGM3Site and while it seems nice to be able to do any function from any K system, as long as a function can be initiated from somewhere, this seems to be a low priority.

    This is not a huge problem for us though since we wouldn’t do a site switch with 3-site configuration and when we go for MGM4SITES, the system in the remote centre would become the Kp. Anyway, we think the Kr should have the same capabilities as the Kp. We should be able to shutdown the DR systems and/or take a SAD.

    Not used on our configuration, but could be a good idea to have. Low priority.
