Automated collection of disk capacity data from GPDS - Maybe by writing entries to SMF.

In GDPS today we have a brilliant function to show the current DS8K pool usage related to capacity. GDPS panel named VPCPLCS6 and VPCPLCS7)

Showing numbers for usable capacity, provisioned capacity, SGC used, SGC provisioned and much more.
The panel also have an option for doing an here and now extract to a flat file that can be post-processed in Excel.

If i want to collect data for a month or so it can be done , but based on manual actions from the panels.

Why now write records to SMF? Then we have the records in house ready for usage whenever we need them.

By having these records in SMF we could look into numbers historically, see growth rates and more. Valuable information related to in example hardware renewal projects.

We get all of this information in Storage Insights. I would argue that that is IBM's strategic offering for managing and presenting this sort of information, so there should be no need for a home-written tool that consumes SMF data.

Why now write records to SMF? or an API CALL to get real time information and the possibility to automate on it (reporting).
