Query online volumes as script

As part of our daily routine, we run FCWITHDRAW in the morning and followed by TESTCOPY CAPTURE RC1 NOCOPY to take a flashcopy in a scheduled scripts.

Sometimes, when the business performs testing and MVS or zVM team doesn't inform us, the schedules remain active and at scheduled time, FCWITHDRAW executes and corrupts the zOS & zVM lpars. We get alerts and then we had to take a new flashcopy.

Instead, if FCWITHDRAW has a additional keyword to validate volumes are online and then perform or if you can provide a function to validate volumes are online/offline to lpars, it will help prevent these conditions.

Please provide QUERY ONLINE/OFFLINE for a range as a function with some RC to validate and then perform the next steps or, add a subparm to FCWITHDRAW function to validate devices are offline before withdrawing the flash.

Not relevant to our environment. Low priority

It seems like a very specific scenario but I can understand the need. Not something we would be exploiting soon. Low priority.

LBG: Not something we'd need within the next two years. Low priority.

If I understand correctly, the FC targets are 'in use'/online in the described use case. Worldpay agrees that FC target volumes should be queried for 'in use' indicators prior to performing the FC. An option to perform the FC regardless of status similar to ICKDSF INIT actions seems reasonable.

There is already another idea ZGDPS-I-225 for similar requirement

We do struggle at times with volumes online and an improvement in this area would be a good idea.

Not something we'll need with the next two years, but any improvement in checking before actioning something is always a good idea.
