GEP/GUI user interface improvements

The GDPS GEP uses colour to communicate meaning about the status of Systems, Devices, and Replication links etc. however some improvements are needed to make the interface more useful. Please consider providing the following:

  1. A way to know which event(s) are driving a red 'Overall Status NOK'. For example, click on the red 'Overall Status NOK' and see a pop-up with all the events responsible for the redness.
  2. Improve documentation in the GEP help which explains what the colours used for Replication links mean.
  3. Consistency in the use of colours between the GEP and GUI. For example, if a replication link is turquoise in the GEP, it should be the same colour in the GUI.
  4. Where a possibly problematic status is in fact OK for a particular configuration, provide a way for a customer to 'tell' the GEP that status is 'acceptable', so it does not cause an 'Overall status NOK'. For example, we have hyperswap disabled on the B.RS1>B.RS2 MM link at the recovery site for a good reason, so we don't want hyperswap inhibited on that link to cause an 'Overall status NOK'. It would be nice to have a way to tell the GEP that HYPERSWAP INHIBITED is acceptable for that replication link. (For example, the z Series HMC has a scheme where you can flag the possible statuses for an object as acceptable or not, so the dashboard can remain clear of alerts about things which the customer knows are not actually a problem.) Perhaps it would be useful to use a special colour or shading to indicate that a potentially abnormal situation about an object has been overridden by the customer.

I have voted for this idea. Our Ops are very keen to use the GEP as their main interface to monitor GDPS, but one current issue is the discrepancies in status colours Kevin mentions. We would also like to see a corresponding change in GEP status when the GDPS SDF status changes colour.

Happy to support this idea in any way.

    thanks, Alex
