Workspace IBM Z JCL Expert
Created by Guest
Created on Dec 13, 2023

On demand, embed the contents of members (e.g. control cards or parameters) referenced by a DD statement

When examining JCL, it is often desirable to reference the contents of members which contain options to be processed by a program. This capability would enable JCL Expert to automatically expand the contents of selected members and display them as ISPF "comment" lines.

Mechanics:

1) Provide a global option that enables or disables this feature. The global option could, for example, be managed by specifying CPXPERT DDEXPAND={ON | OFF} on the ISPF "command" line.

2) The person coding the JCL specifies some semaphore value (e.g. *CXP*) on all DD statements that point to a dataset, member or file that is to be "expanded"

3)  JCL Expert scans the JCL for the semaphore (e.g. *CXP*) if and only if the feature is enabled as described in point 1. If so, the following occurs for each DD that is so identifier:

3a) Read the contents of the dataset, member or file specified by the DD

3b) Insert each line immediately after the DD statement, prefixed (in the ISPF command area) by ++++++ and colored yellow.  Any identifying characters and color will do, as long as it does not overlap with the lines inserted by COMPARE (i.e. ====== and white) or MODEL (i.e. =NOTE= and blue).
