This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

We need to match system application names containing a small list of characters at a specific position: IM\d[PS]CTL
This would give us the possibility the differ between our 2 production environments and our 5 development environments.
A normal wildcard doesn't cover this requirement
The regex is given by the subsystem responsibles, to provide the definition as selfservice.
But I can't talk/teach about regex, when I do not have the central feature of squared brackets!
For me that feature is one of the key features to allow or exclude a list of characters.
Without it the usability of the match() function is reduced to only a small set of situations.

Hi,
we got another situation, where we urgently need a better regex syntax:
For a message containing percentage values we want to react when the the values are about 80 to 99 percent. So a check with /0[89]./ would give us a great solution.
Without it, we have to double the reaction for /08./ and /09./
But two identical reactions are confusing and error-prone.
Please reconsider this idea for a higher priority.
The MATCH-function really brings a lot of potential, but we are often stopped to make greater benefit out of it.
