Certificate Based Authentication for console interfaces

System: console interfaces
Actor: System Administrator or Security Administrator

Console interfaces are commonly used to manage the configuration and availability of information system components; servers, facilities, application systems, etc..

Description: Our team is required by Federal law and associated policy to implement security controls that enforce access to Federal information systems and associated components using certificate-based authentication (C-B-A). The existing USERID-password authentication mechanisms will be retained for use in the case of emergency or in the event that all or part of the certificate-based authentication mechanism becomes inoperative.
