This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

(De-)Provision zCX instance with zospt

zCX instances get provisioned and removed using predefined z/OSMF workflows. The required workflow definition files already exist but lack of being fully automated: the first step which gathers instance information by user interaction and the last step(s) which provide a start/stop command for the instance have to be finished by hand.

We succeeded to get zospt to provision and deprovision a zCX instance with just a handful of modifications to the workflow definitions files of zCX. (This, without zCX leveraging the z/OSMF Cloud Provisioning functionality right now.) But by using our own modified workflows with zospt we are risking that we might not use the latest definitions file in the future.

This RFE proposes zospt to provide a new (set of) image(s) to be able to provision and deprovision a zCX instance ("container").

In addition, workflows which make modifications to an existing zCX instance (i.e. add data disks) should also be made available by zospt tooling without the need to reprovision a whole instance, for example by providing a Docker-like "update" command.

While we continue to support z/OS PT its capability is not actively being extended. A better approach would be to raise an RFE against zCX asking for your modifications to be incorporated. The suggestion to add an update command is interesting idea but goes beyond the comparable function in Docker and beyond what we intended for z/OS PT.
