IBM Z Software

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

reduce (seemingly) duplicate resource/user/intent entries in Access Monitor

Using AM1, with 1 ACCESS data set as input, you may see several lines for 1 resource at the DISPLAY level. In some cases, the REQUEST FLAGS for this one user/resource/intent combination may show a difference, but in many cases the REQ FLAGS in the lines are blank or identical.

Provide an option (or a default!) to reduce these seeming duplicates to 1 line in the ACCESS file.

I zeroed out the first nibble of FLAGS_RAW (ignoring requests for DISCRETE profiles and pre-loaded generics) and the 3rd nibble (DSTYPE=V/M/T) using 48 (!) CONVERSION statements. This increased CPU usage of C2PAMCMP processing by 20% but reduced the record count by 26-28%.

It would be MUCH more efficient it there was a format that applied bitwise AND on the field, for example:

    define FLAGS_RAW(BITAND('0F1F'x)) as FLAGS_RAW

I also tried to zero out the useless bits with a lookup to a DEFTYPE file. The file had 65536 lines and 2 fields (orig bits, new bits). But in order to read the file, I could not write the 2 values a readable HEX, but had to write ASIS values, as there is no support for HEX->internal in the CONVERT( ) function. Unprintable data is hard on maintenance, so I opted not to use this efficient solution.

Note, in both alternatives, with a BITAND( ) modifier and with the lookup, we must apply the modification only to RECTYPE=AUTH CLASS=DATASET.
