EAV Support to the Datastore UDF repositories

We are asking that HCL/IBM consider our request to add much-needed functionality and scalability to the IWS Datastore by adding VSAM Extended Format (which implies multi-volume) and EAV Support to the Datastore UDF repositories. Please refer to Incident TS010268776 for background and the SEV1 opened due to the IWS Datastore recursive abends. We understand that IWS Datastore has not tested and therefore cannot offer support for multi-volume UDF repositories – yet in large installations, this functionality is critical to the scalability and stability of the product. We are also requesting that full EAV exploitation support be included as that is a direction that our environment is moving to. We also understand that we can grow horizontally with standard 4G VSAM and the lack of multi-volume support – but the ability to allocate DASD with these restrictions tend to make the IWS Datastore operate in a manner not consistent with current technology and capabilities. Additionally, it introduces significant DASD management issues as we find ourselves micro-managing and checking on UDF full or 4G breach possibilities. The IWS Datastore is critical to GM as it’s utilized for Restart and Cleanup – and in those situations where it has not been available or SYSOUT has not been processed (CLNO abends), our strict schedules are delayed as we’re forced to perform manual restart actions. These delays have a cascading impact to production and our ability to support our customers. We would be willing to work with IBM/HCL to test support in our Test Sysplex if you were willing to enroll us in an ESP.
