Recommended procedure for relocating zWS databases and datasets (changing dataset names)

Sometimes it's necessary to change the dataset names of a zWS installation due to changes in the dataset naming conventions or migration of zWS datasets from non-SMS-managed volumes to SMS-managed volumes. Unfortunately, I cannot find any recommendations in IBM literature on zWS on how to proceed in such cases. It only describes migration to a new zWS release, which is not relevant in these cases.

In my concrete scenario the zWS VSAM and other datasets had to be moved from non-SMS-managed volumes to SMS-managed volumes, I couldn't simply rename the files. So I created the VSAM files in the same way as the old ones, initially empty, as well as the NON-VSAM files and the PSU (unmoveable files). Then I used IDCAMS REPRO and IEBGENER to copy the contents of the old files 1:1 to the new files. 

After doing this I tried to start the zWS tasks with the new dataset names again. The tasks started, but there was no daily plan any more (EQQN026W A NEW CURRENT PLAN (NCP) HAS BEEN REJECTED). I then started with CURRPLAN(NEW) and then it worked.

Nevertheless I'd like to have a recommended procedure for this without loosing events. This might also help other customers overcome similar challenges.

    This request is rejected because the procedure is "personalized" for each client and it should not be needed to use frequently.
