This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

I have been introduced to the ABO tool with a view of improving performance of existing compiled COBOL programs without the need to recompile.
What would really be very helpful would be if the tool could be enhanced to include the ability to output the new executables in AMODE31 regardless of the input AMODE. This would resolve above the line / below the line issues encountered in many shops.
Today if you input AMODE24 you get AMODE24 out.

After a lot of discussion, we agree this is an interesting idea for a broader scope tool.
But ABO was not designed to do this; and is not in the scope of just COBOL and ABO.
As a result, we will have to respectfully reject this RFE.
This RFE is still being investigated.
