IBM Enterprise COBOL for z/OS is a continuous delivery offering, and aims to satisfy the needs of a rapidly evolving market segment. Product strategy evolves and requirements are continuously evaluated against that strategy. This RFE has recently been reappraised against the wider product strategy and does not fall into IBMs delivery plans for the next 12 month. Whilst this RFE might be valid and we might look to deliver longer term, this RFE is being rejected at this time. The requirement will be kept in our internal RFE backlog and might be reassessed in the future.

Fully support this. WE have similar challenges where-by in effect SSRANGE for tables (i.e. to avoid S0C4 abends) is what we want BUT as an unwanted element we get it applied to Ref Mod.

Seems to me that instead of defining the linkage field as PIC X you should define it as follows:
    01 my-linkage-area.
05 pic x occurs 0 to unbounded depending on my-linkage-length.
    01 my-linkage-length pic s9(9) comp-5.
    procedure division using my-linkage-area, my-linkage-length.

SSRANGE checking is already omitted for "unbounded" tables.

(Ideally Enterprise COBOL would also support the new "ANY LENGTH" clause...)

This RFE has been accepted; and will be updated when put into plan.
