Cobol V5+ - Special Registers for access to information SERVICE and COPYRIGHT

It would be useful to have access at run time to the SERVICE and COPYRIGHT informations (valued by the compiler options).

This could be done through Special Registers :
- COPYRIGHT-OPTION or equivalent
- SERVICE-OPTION or equivalent


The length of Special Register would be program dependant (actuel length of string value, and not maximum length of compiler option) :

- NOCOPYRIGTH, NOSERVICE --> length 0, value ''
- COPYRIGTH('ABCD'), SERVICE('ABCD') --> length 4, value 'ABCD'

    IBM Enterprise COBOL for z/OS is a continuous delivery offering, and aims to satisfy the needs of a rapidly evolving market segment. Product strategy evolves and requirements are continuously evaluated against that strategy. This RFE has recently been reappraised against the wider product strategy and does not fall into IBMs delivery plans for the next 12 month. Whilst this RFE might be valid and we might look to deliver longer term, this RFE is being rejected at this time. The requirement will be kept in our internal RFE backlog and might be reassessed in the future.

    This is a very good RFE. Currently we mark our application releases with IDENTIFY statements in the binder step after compilation. I will appreciate the opportunity to enable our programs to expose release info by own coding, e.g. DISPLAY service-info at first call in batch.

    This is a valid RFE. As a result, we will be accepting it.

    However, this RFE would need to generate more votes before we can put it into plan.
