OPEN Operation Extensions

Allow for additional processing to be associated with OPEN operations
based on whether the file is OPEN as INPUT or OUTPUT.
(Feature is not available for OPEN I/O or EXTEND.)

The aim is to facilitate easier introduction of Headers and Trailers processing
particularly where this is a aim to ensure that the processing
is carried out to an agreed standard.

Suggested SYNTAX,

OPEN
INPUT file-name-y
ON FIRST RECORD PERFORM procedure-name-1 / CALL identifier-1 + literal-1
ON LAST RECORD PERFORM procedure-name-1 / CALL identifier-1 + literal-1

OUTPUT file-name-x
ON FIRST RECORD PERFORM procedure-name-1 / CALL identifier-1 + literal-1
ON LAST RECORD PERFORM procedure-name-1 / CALL identifier-1 + literal-1




PERFORM and CALL statements subject to the same rules and constraints as per corresponding stmts
in the PROCEDURE division.

    How the compiler can dectect last record in write operation ? (last write before close)
    Only logic can do this (I think).

    Hi,

    As asked before, can't this not be done today? Are you wanting the compiler to detect something that currently cannot be detected by the user?
