This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

IBM Enterprise COBOL for z/OS is a continuous delivery offering, and aims to satisfy the needs of a rapidly evolving market segment. Product strategy evolves and requirements are continuously evaluated against that strategy. This RFE has recently been reappraised against the wider product strategy and does not fall into IBMs delivery plans for the next 12 month. Whilst this RFE might be valid and we might look to deliver longer term, this RFE is being rejected at this time. The requirement will be kept in our internal RFE backlog and might be reassessed in the future.
This RFE has been accepted and will be updated once put into plan. Thanks.
The assembler language is now less and less known by system programmers preferring one like COBOL.
There are a series of MACRO ASSEMBLER to extract the control blocks starting from the PSA ASCB TCB, etc.
Why not release a series of COBOL copies that address these areas?
Hi, can you please clarify if you are already doing this without COBOL, but want to use COBOL?
ie do you want COBOL mappings to these systems calls?
The COBOL programming language with version 6.2 and Z14 allows, in addition to high performance, also to address the areas made available with POINTERS (function already available with cobol prior to 4.2.
IBM, especially in the CICS environment, tries to insert these functions through the CICS commands (EXEC CICS INQURE ASSOCIATION), and request Passticket.
in BATCH the thing is more complex and either the assembler or copy cobol macros and the proper addressing to extract the desired data are used.
Attachment (Description): this small program addresses from the PSA chain to fetch the ACEE pointer.
Attachment (Description): Example of copy cobol for IHAACE usable both in CICS and in BATCH.
