Enterprise COBOL - Display the source code line in error in a *CONTROL NOSOURCE block

The source code can be hidden or displayed in the listing using the *CONTROL NOSOURCE / *CONTROL SOURCE directives.

We use this mechanism at the level of our COBOL framework made up of COPYBOOKs, to hide the documentation (cf. ID=145887), and hide the management of conditional compilation variables.

We voluntarily raise compilation errors in certain contexts, (cf. ID=122746), but if the code containing a compilation error is under control of a *CONTROL NOSOURCE directive, then the error message is displayed, but the source line containing the error is not displayed, making the error unintelligible.

We would like that in the event of an error, or even for any informational or warning message, caused by a line of source code under control of a *CONTROL NOSOURCE directive, this source line is displayed in the listing.

    Hi,

After careful consideration, we would not want to change existing behavior for existing clients. The source is not being shown because of the CONTROL NOSOURCE directive. It is better to manually open it to the line number and inspect the code around it. Having a line of source shown would probably not be sufficient in most cases to determine the root cause of the error/warning since you often need to see the context around this code, or the data definitions, etc. As a result, this RFE is being rejected.

This RFE is being investigated further.
