Enterprise COBOL should support zHyperLink

IBM's zHyperLink technology offers a way to radically improve the performance for I/O to VSAM files. Performance improvements of orders of magnitude are possible with zHyperLink. On a system with zHyperLink and with an otherwise qualifying environment, Enterprise COBOL today prevents zHyperLink exploitation.

Hi, we have decided to accept this Idea with the following plan going forward:

We propose to come up with a non-default runtime option to use direct VSAM access (instead of sequential) which will allow us to support zHyperLink. This runtime option will need to be manually turned on by users. Feel free to let us know if you have any concerns with this approach. Thanks.

This Idea is being assessed further and needs more time.
