Wrong length record return codes with COBOL V5.1

In COBOL V5.1 changed the handling of variable length file reads where reads longer/shorter than record length now return a return code 4 for the read. This is causing us considerable pain. While programming practices are a given we are in dire need of relief from this change until we can get our code remediation done. We have over 4300 known programs that will need changed. What we are asking is a way to set compatibility with previous functionality with COBOL V4.2 at least (ie a "switch" in the options table) that will allow us time to get our code to conform to standard.

    The RFE has been made available via the September 2014 PTF for Enterprise COBOL V5.1.1; and will also be part of future compiler versions.

    This is a valid request and has been put in plan for a future compiler release. Once the feature is delivered, the RFE will be updated accordingly.
