LIST Option causes issues with messages from COBOL 5.2 compiler

When compile parm LIST is used with the parm FLAG(I,I), compiler diagnostic messages that are supposed to be printed at the end of the source listing (page 327 Programming Guide SC14-7382-03) are in fact printing in the middle of the output ahead of the assembler code list. COBOL 4.2 correctly locates those messages at the end and 5.2 also needs to do the same.

Was reported as defect but told this must be a Enhancement request to fix this.

In Use case, have a sample COBOL program with the Compile parms used and the output that shows the problem.

It is worth noting that a decent workaround is to specify the TERM compile option and include a SYSTERM DD in the compile JCL. The output to SYSTERM is limited to just some informational data and the errors. For example:

PP 5655-W32 IBM Enterprise COBOL for z/OS 5.2.0 in progress ...
    LineID Message code Message text
5 IGYPS2015-I The paragraph or section prior to paragraph or section
"TWO" did not contain any statements.
    9 IGYPS2008-E A period was required before procedure-name "FOUR". A
    period was assumed before "FOUR".
Messages Total Informational Warning Error Severe Terminating
    Printed: 2 1 1
End of compilation 1, program COB5X, highest severity 8.
    LineID Message code Message text
IGYCB7300-W The code from lines 8.1 in program 'COB5X' can never be
    executed and was therefore discarded.
Messages Total Informational Warning Error Severe Terminating
    Printed: 3 1 1 1
    Return code 8
