This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

V12 PTF UK83148 introduced an XML API for templates which has a wide range of applications - including the ability to specify dynamic templates in the JCL. Which should provide the functionality required for this requirement and more. Consider the following example.
Example. Run a compare job using XML dynamic templates specified in the JCL to perform column compares. This compares columns 1 to 5 input file with columns 8 to 12 of the output file , and columns 6 to 10 of the input file with columns 13 to 17 of the output file.
//FMBAT EXEC PGM=FILEMGR
//SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=*
//DDOLD DD DISP=SHR,DSN=FMN.DATA(COMP1OLD)
//DDNEW DD DISP=SHR,DSN=FMN.DATA(COMP1NEW)
//TDOLD DD DATA
/*
//TDNEW DD DATA
/*
//SYSIN DD *
$$FILEM DSM TYPE=FORMATTED,LIST=DELTA
/*
It also added support for defining multiple layouts and identfication criteria allowing the user to select different columns for comparison based on criteria.
Consider the following example
Example. Compare file with 2 record layout - sample data file
//FMBAT EXEC PGM=FILEMGR
//SYSPRINT DD SYSOUT=*
//DDOLD DD DISP=SHR,DSN=FMN.FMNCDATA.OLD
//DDNEW DD DISP=SHR,DSN=FMN.FMNCDATA.NEW
//TDDIN DD DATA
/*
//SYSIN DD *
$$FILEM DSM TYPE=FORMATTED,LIST=DELTA,TOLD=TDDIN,TNEW=TDDIN
/*
