Default value type setting in IMS Catalog for Explorer inserts

Modify the IMS Catalog to have default values for field statements, that is: spaces, low values, zeros, zoned, etc. This would then be used by IMS Explorer Suite for inserts when a field value is not specified.

For Example on this "Insert into MS3D0BOP.MS3YBOLR values('D3000126311058961707)" and no other field is specified you will get a segment inserted with the key in the insert statement, but the remainder of the segment will be filled with zeros. In most cases we would want spaces, not zeros. But of course we do have numeric fields as well and they would need the correct formating to prevent SOC7 type abends.

We reviewed this RFE and at this point in time we will not be able to address this request in the near future. For this reason, we are removing this RFE. If you would like to discuss this further please contact, Daphne Isom, email: dsteele4@us.ibm.com.

Yes, if only the inserts that are SQL formated had this ability, that would meet our needs. We do not need the "classic" coding methods modified in any way.

    Dear Lynn,

Thank you for your IMS enhancement request. I've reviewed this RFE and have a question to help me determine the size and scope of this change to the internals of IMS.

If IMS were to only apply the default values for inserts made with SQL would that satisfy your business requirement?

    Best Regards,
