IMS database dependent segment layout mapping based on root segment value

To be able to access IMS database segment with different data structures using SQL you have to define mappings in your Catalog. The data structures of a segment typically depend on the segment length or a specific field value within this segment. For dependent segments it can also be the case that their data structure depends on a root segment key or a different root segment value. Actually it is not possible to map this for SQL access in the Catalog and also the Universal JDBC driver and the Universal Resource Adapters cannot handle this. This prevents from modernizing applications which are accessing such databases by open database applications or IMS Java applications using SQL to access the database.

    Hi Mr. Recknagel,

Thank you for your interest in keeping IMS a vital and successful product. Software development has continuously evolved during IMS's lifetime, and so has IMS itself. We have kept pace with, adopted, and implemented many industry standard best practices within our organization, including Continuous Delivery, Design Thinking, and Agile.

When choosing new features to add from the list of requirements in our backlog, we assess which will bring the most value to as many clients as possible and prioritize those.

After reviewing this request for enhancement and assessing its potential value, our decision is to add this item to our backlog. Items in our backlog are expected to be delivered within the next 18 months. We reserve the right to re-prioritize our backlog items as new requests come in. This helps ensure that we are constantly focused on providing the best value to all of our clients.

    Have a great day!

We need this functionality also for dependent segments which mappings depend on a field of a parent segment which is not the root segment (for instance a segment mapping in the third hierarchy level depends on a value of a field of its direct parent on the second hierarchy level).
