IBM JVM needs to support default credentials cache file created by native kinit (/usr/bin/kinit) program, like Oracle JVM does today.
Our client OCC (big US financial company) requires to secure access to HDFS with Kerberos. We anticipate that more clients will require the same. We ship our solution with IBM JVM. However, IBM JVM requires additional configuration in order to support native kinit program (/usr/bin/kinit). Furthemore, if configuration is missing or wrong, IBM JVM gives meaningless error in the sense that it's impossible to understand what went wrong and how to resolve the issue.
Our client notes that Oracle JVM does not require any additional configuration and works out of the box with native kinit programt. This contributes for our client to resist using IBM JVM.
The issue is that IBM JVM does not locate the user credentials cache in /tmp/krb5cc_<user uid> which is created by native kinit program and is found by Oracle JVM.
Another issue is that the current error in IBM JVM does not provide any explanation to what goes wrong and adds a lot of frustration to IT and developers. I believe that by adding this feature to IBM JVM will save a lot of time for IT, developers and support team of IBM JVM. For example, I posted my question about this issue on https://developer.ibm.com/answers/questions/339215/null-key-error-while-accessing-kerberized-hdfs.html a week ago and got an email from external developer (from greenwalls.com) if I found any solution to this issue. I had to open PMR and get help of support team in order to figure out how to make IBM JVM to work with native kinit program. It looks to me that anybody who uses IBM JVM and default configuration of Kerberos on Linux hits this issue and has no idea how to resolve it.
