IBM Z Software

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

PL/I for AIX string variables are not displayed correctly using IBM Debugger/Rational Developer applications.

Variables containing unprintable characters are not displayed correctly in "(x)= Variables" view.

Apparently this is reproducible when a binary NUL is present, which carries no special meaning in CHAR NONVAR variables in PL/1.

This severely limits reviewing e.g. communications areas for TXSeries CICS programs, which are affected by instable display of structures variables as such (read: it is not working). (we will prepare a relevant PMR for that other issue once we are have significant sample program to illustrate the issue separately).

We understand that viewing large (>n bytes) variables is somewhat not supported in RTC Debugger, but for smaller variables this should be feasible (being the fully fledged debugger at hand).

Debugger is shortening variables and displays them differently to e.g. a PLI DISPLAY() statement.

Expected behaviour: display all codepoints without restrictions; or at least fail gracefully and do not display wrong values in string representation for PL/1 for AIX 3.1 programs

This should be opened against the debugger
