Generic types and parameters of type any

Parameters of type "any" should have methods returning the type, basic type, length and decimals.

Example:
x num(10,2);
foo(x);
..

function foo(p any)
writeStdOut(p.type());
writeStdOut(p.basicType());
writeStdOut(p.length());
writeStdOut(p.decimals());
// Would display:
// num(10,2)
// num
// 10
// 2

It should also be possible to define variables with the type, length and decimals as variables. Example:
myType string = "num";
myLength int = 8;
myDecimals int = 2;

myVar1 myType(myLength, myDecimals); // Same as num(8,2)
myVar2 char(myLength); // Same as char(8)

Alternatively just the length and scale, e.g:
myLength int = 8;
myDecimals int = 2;
myVar1 num(myLength, myDecimals); // Same as num(8,2)

    Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
    Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Programming Languages
    Product - Business Developer

    For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - Rational
    Product family - Design & development
    Product - Business Developer

    Thank you for this suggestion. However, it is unlikely that this feature would be implemented within the next two years. Note that the EGL loose types give some of this functionality. You can dynamically create other variables based on the loose type.
