This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

1.1 Situation while debugging an EGL program
Assume these preferences (EGL ? Debug ? Debug Behaviour Mapping ? Called Program):
Mapping mode = ?source?
Call target = *
When a call statement is encountered during debug, it is matched against the debug behaviour mapping preferences. When the resolved mapping mode = ?source?, the workspace is scanned to try to locate the EGL Source. When the source is not found, the call statement is performed as if ?generated? was specified as mapping mode.
The above behaviour is exactly what we want: When an EGL Source is available, debug it, otherwise run the generated version of the program.
1.2 Requested enhancement
There's no caching of the information about whether a certain program is available as EGL Source or not.
This results in a behaviour where for each call statement, the same scanning of the workspace is done again.
Let's say you debug a program that calls 10 programs that are not available as EGL Source, as result 10 scans of the workspace will be done.
We request that some caching is introduced, so that the above example would result in only 1 scan of the workspace for each debug session.
So each debug session starts with an empty cache.

This enhancement has been completed, and is available in fix pack 7.1.0.4. It will also be rolled up into our next 7.5.x fix pack.
Thank you for this suggestion. We agree that implementing this will have a significant impact on debugger performance. We expect to include this enhancement in an upcoming fix pack.
