RIP Replacement for z/Systems Open Systems Network Interface

1. Cisco is indicating that it is apparently retiring the Routing Information Protocol (RIP) from its routers/switches, z/TPF needs a replacement such as Open Shortest Path First (OSPF).
2. The most recent addition of Cisco's most recent switch to the network required a work around as only Cisco only one interface could support RIP and not multiple.
3. As older Routers/Switches are replaced that support the High Availability (HA) TCP/IP Network for multiple z/TPF Loosely Coupled Computing Clusters (LCCC) this will be escalate to a urgent need.

During investigation of this request, there is no indication from Cisco that RIP routing will no longer be supported. In fact, there is no documentation about the change of behavior experienced that generated this RFE. This is a large effort to implement new routing functionality for VIPAs and TPF will only ever use a very small subset of the protocol. TPF customers have been running with the RIP protocol for over a decade now, with very few problems. This RFE will be rejected until we get clear evidence that RIP as a routing protocol is going out of favor.
