DB2's Cloud Storage Support
The direct support for S3 storage (Simple Storage Service) is definitely a great feature from IBM introduced with v11.1, that helps particularly to write backups and read them from anywhere.
However, there are still some missing pieces and issues which are required to be enhanced by IBM are
Extend the feature support in AIX along with Linux and SuSE
Error messages returned need to be improved. Currently errors are returned as 8-character hex codes, which are internal DB2 codes it seems. These hex codes are unable to understand and not giving any clue in debugging issues related to the S3 storage path, facilities. These codes either need to be documented or transformed into something that is understandable by external users.
LIST HISTORY commands doesn't shows full information about bucket / folder paths, hence no clue on where the backup was written. It would be great to enhance LIST HISTORY and associated SQL functions to cover this.
Progress status of utilities needs to available when writing to S3.
Support for direct archive logging (archive and retrieval) directly to S3.
Documentation needs to be completed to cover documentation for db2RemStgMgr utility, local storage requirement and many other areas.
