OpenAPI 3.0 support for API's hosted in z/OS Connect using API Provider

We have many z/OS-hosted APIs that we want to expose to our entire enterprise. Our existing z/OS Connect tooling emits Swagger 2.0 as a description of that API, but our corporate API infrastructure requires OpenAPI 3.0 standard taxonomy. The corporate API infrastructure requires conformance to specific taxonomy rules and standards, and is dependent on OpenAPI 3.0-formatted descriptions of the API. Today, it is an entirely manual process to convert the Swagger 2.0 specification into an OpenAPI 3.0 specification that is conforms to standards. Additionally, it is not just “conversion”, but additional editing that is required to modify spurious tags, security descriptions, and other elements of the OpenAPI 3.0 spec which are not provided in the Swagger 2.0 document. Further, any change or maintenance to the API's definition / structure requires that each of the manual steps to translate from Swagger 2.0 to OpenAPI 3.0 must be repeated – and as this is a manual process, it is quite an art to achieve perfection (it's hard to do).

I agree 100% it has been a great frustration on our end to create a Swagger manually. We are doing it but need support from IBM to start thinking about giving the ability as soon as a new standard for Swagger is available for usage then Zos connect should give the same ability so it makes it easy for the adoption of this more easily.

    Thank you for this RFE.

Support for OpenAPI 3.0 is a strategic requirement that is part of our long term roadmap.

Delivering this requirement will need some careful design consideration and may take some time to deliver. We are currently seeking participation in our design program to help us develop our designs. If you are interested in joining us on this journey to shape the delivery of capability, please sign up to the Z Client Feedback Program via the link below, indicating your interest in z/OS Connect EE:
