Reporting on SGC capture status

Reporting on SGC capture status needs to be improved.

Currently there is no IBM provided automated option to query or report on capture completeness.

Only option is manually checking Netlog or the LCP/SGC GDPS panels.

To determine if a capture is partial or complete our current solution is built around the GEO2976I message.

As GEO2976I does not include the capture ID or time stamp it is required to build scripts and automation to get precise automated reporting on SGC capture status.

This is not an officially supported solution and needs to be maintained actively by the customer.

 

We require messages occurring at capture creation, deletion and on partial captures to include the Capture Sequence Number and UTC time stamp:

Something like this:

GEOnnnnI SGC CAPTURE SEQUENCE NUMBER xxxxxxxx (UTC yyyy/mm/dd.hh:ss) FLAGGED AS PARTIAL IN <mp_name>

  

Additionally the GEO2775I message should include the capture sequence number:

GEO2775I LCP SAFEGUARD CAPTURE ENDED SUCCESSFULLY (NVxxx) + capture sequence number

    It is important to ensure SGC captures are complete otherwise the capture was not a useful copy - High priority.

    When using LCP and SGC, we have do get meaningful messages. Medium priority, because we are just testing now.

    Medium priority for us. We are asked to provide our management with reports showing the number of complete captures that we have over time, so any messaging / alerting that would help us to automate that would be appreciated - though the LCP monitors in the panels are pretty good.

    This is an incredibly important requirement for our implementation of SafeGuarded Copy. We have regulated requiremens to report when captures were taken and that we have a specific number of captures held in the environment.

    Customer is going to implement a physical LCP due to DORA requirements. A capture report of sure will be a needed part. Any automated option would be helpful. Thx!
