This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

We'd like to request you to implement new function of COBOL XML converter generated by RDz V7.6.1.
We expect that XML converter will set the XML attribute xsi:nil="true" and not set any data, if the following conditions meet.
(1)The conversion direction is COBOL data field to XML element.
(2)The source COBOL data field is character type ( PIC X, PIC G, PIC N ).
(3)The target XML element has xsi:nillable="true" attribute.
(4)The COBOL data field is filled with 0x00 (low-value) at conversion.
Here is our expected conversion examples.
Example 1
X'00000000' for a PIC X(4) would be converted to <ns:.... xmlns:xsi=.... xsi:nil="true"/> for an XML element.
Example 2
X'00000000' for a PIC G(2) or PIC N(2) would be converted to <ns:.... xmlns:xsi=.... xsi:nil="true"/> for an XML element.
Example 3
X'0000000E' for a PIC X(4) would be converted to spaces, because the source value contains illegal character (0X0E) in XML 1.0, and it's not filled with low-value.
Example 4
X'0000000E' for a PIC G(2) or PIC N(2) would be converted to spaces, because the source value contains illegal character (0X000E) in XML 1.0, and it's not filled with low-value.
Example 5
The character "ABCD" for a PIC X(4) would be converted to <xxxx>ABCD</xxxx> just as same as current XML converter function.
The conversion would be done from EBCDIC to UTF-8. This request is related to PMR :61624.6x8.760 and STSC inquiry number:61624/61649/61823
