IBM Z Software

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas
  1. Post an idea.

  2. Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.

  3. Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

LCP Scheduler Automatic retry

With GDPS 4.8, the LCP manager gained new functionality that added support for a built in scheduling mechanism. This scheduler requires script control in order to create a capture. This means an issue may arise where if an active script is running, a scheduled LCP capture will fail. While ultimately the solution should not require script control to function, we understand this may not be feasible, and would instead suggest creating additional parameters in the scheduler that would provide the LCP capture to retry for a limited period of time. Invariably, the scripts that may interfere with a scheduled run are unlikely to run for very long and we could achieve our intended capture timeframe within a few minutes if it would retry a new capture. For instance, adding 'RETRY DELAY' and 'RETRY COUNT' variables would allow a customer to set a maximum timeout period before ultimately giving up and failing the scheduled capture time.

A retry delay/count will be needed, not only for this example.

We are still at 4.7 using timer/trigger from system automation. Sometimes we need a retry because the capture failed due to various reasons (like not able to get a consistency point during high load on ds8k)

Next to that, it wouldn't have to fail in combination with all scripts, only with scripts that cannot run simultaneously with a capture

This would be very useful for us.

LBG: Makes sense. Medium priority and something we'd like within the next two years.
