    Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
    Brand - Servers and Systems Software
    Product family - Programming Languages
    Product - C/C++ Compilers

    For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
    Brand - Rational
    Product family - Design & development
    Product - C/C++ Compilers

    The compiler is working as designed.

    The reason for the linker error is because ARG_POS is defined on line 4 of TRPFM131.C and it controls the 'static' keyword in the TRPHF101.h header file. When ARG_POS is defined, the pe_cpt() function in TRPFM131.C has internal linkage. As a result, the static function is available only from the point where it is defined to the end of the current translation unit ie, it has no external linkage and it does not export any symbols. Hence, the linker complains.

    Below is a reduced version of the test case:

    $ cat test.cpp
    static unsigned int foo();

    unsigned int foo()
    {

    int j = 0;
    for (int i=0; i<10; ++i)
    j = j+i;

    return 0;

    }
    $
    $ xlC -G test.cpp -o test.so
    ld: 0711-244 ERROR: No csects or exported symbols have been saved.
    $

    If test.cpp is modified to remove the 'static' keyword, it links fine.

    Similarly, if ARG_POS is not defined in TRPFM131.C, it links fine.
