This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

As of now, when the API we call return a dynamical JSON array, we need to declare a COBOL array with a large number of occurences in order to be sure to retrieve all the data with the JSON PARSE statements.
But, in most cases, the json array will be way smaller than the max size of the COBOL array, and we will not know how many of its occurences are actually populated.
The solution given in the COBOL documentation (https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SS6SG3_6.3.0/lr/ref/rlpsjsopd.html) is not really doable, especially if the API return multiple dynamical arrays.
It would be really useful to us to be able to parse dynamical json arrays into ODO cobol tables, with the JSON PARSE statement giving us the number of actual occurences filled. Ideally by automatically update the ODO counter.
It would also be very handy if this was possible for imbricated dynamical arrays with different numbers of occurences, wich are very common in json.

IBM Enterprise COBOL for z/OS is a continuous delivery offering, and aims to satisfy the needs of a rapidly evolving market segment. Product strategy evolves and requirements are continuously evaluated against that strategy. This RFE has recently been reappraised against the wider product strategy and does not fall into IBMs delivery plans for the next 12 month. Whilst this RFE might be valid and we might look to deliver longer term, this RFE is being rejected at this time. The requirement will be kept in our internal RFE backlog and might be reassessed in the future.
This RFE is being discussed further.
