This portal is to open public enhancement requests against IBM Z Software products. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).
We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:
Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,
Post an idea.
Get feedback from the IBM team and other customers to refine your idea.
Follow the idea through the IBM Ideas process.

IBM Enterprise COBOL for z/OS is a continuous delivery offering, and aims to satisfy the needs of a rapidly evolving market segment. Product strategy evolves and requirements are continuously evaluated against that strategy. This RFE has recently been reappraised against the wider product strategy and does not fall into IBMs delivery plans for the next 12 month. Whilst this RFE might be valid and we might look to deliver longer term, this RFE is being rejected at this time. The requirement will be kept in our internal RFE backlog and might be reassessed in the future.
This RFE is being accepted.
First see my comment in August 2015.
Current OFFSET is not sufficient. What we are missing:
1. the easy access of offsets of 01-level items in the Working-Storage or Local-Storage. These are not included neither in the imbedded Map (right side of data division source listing) nor in the Data Division Map.
2. Easy access to summary data. In order to get a quick info of the total size of working-storage, I have to look at the binder listing and locate the length of the program's C_WSA part.
Hi, after further investigation, we think the OFFSET option might already give the info you're looking for. Can you please try the OFFSET option and tell us if that is sufficient?
This is being accepted on the grounds of outputting the offset of 'this' program's WSA. The RFE will be updated once we put it into plan.
Due to processing by IBM, this request was reassigned to have the following updated attributes:
Brand - Servers and Systems Software
Product family - Programming Languages
Product - COBOL Compilers
For recording keeping, the previous attributes were:
Brand - Rational
Product family - Design & development
Product - COBOL Compilers
I did further investigations: Options MAP and OFFSET/LIST are confusing. MAP should show the layout of data in the DATA DIVISION. OFFSET/LIST shows the result of the compiler processing of the statements in the PROCEDURE DIVISION. These two aspects are merged uncomfortly.
The Static Map produced with OFFSET/LIST contains the desired offsets which I expected from Option MAP, these offsets should be included in the embedded MAP report without the need to specify OFFSET/LIST.
OFFSET also produces some items hardly needed at regular compiles and is only useful with LIST instead of OFFSET:
- Constant Area
- Program prolog areas
- Time stamp and compiler version information
- Compiler options and program information
- Base locator table
- Automatic maps
Please consider redesigning the effects of MAP/OFFSET or provide some sub options for more granualr control of the compile listing.
