Automation of Key Management Operations

#Automation and scheduling

As a key manager I need the ability to schedule or delay operations for key activation/deletion/rotation to a specific date and/or time of day.

#Theme - Expiry/de-activation/deletion/rotation based on key usage pattern

Story: As the key holder, author or key governance body i need the ability to provide and set the key retention period (metadata). Retention period could be given by the legislation, policy or defined key usage: Key usage definition could f.x be a key defined for development clusters (i.e IKS) deployed or used for given period of time and a lifespan that fit with the instance where key is used.

- Cloud Functions lifespan is hours/days

-IKS/Openshift clusters for development have a lifespan of Days/Months

Feedback Details:

Financial benefits to limit/destroy keys not actively needed and/or used in the different endpoints. Since many cloud providers or HSM instances payment models are based on number of keys significant savings could be obtained by better governance and control of key usage. When keys are defined/created they would/should have a retention period and the Muliticloud orchestration tool should provide automation event, notification and reporting options.

    Automation and scheduling is a requirement for us too. This would allow us to perform manual effort during working hours (create/approve work requests) but then have the work itself completed out of hours during the required change window.
