No NULL value columns for fields, which according to the WHERE clause conditions can't exist in the SQL result

IMS databases can have multiple different layouts on the same segment. Before accessing such a segment using SQL these different layouts need to be defined with a DFSMAP/DFSCASE mapping definition, which describes to IMS which layout needs to be used under which circumstance. When then accessing such a segment with SQL statements typically only the segments with one specific layout will be processed. This will be ensured by providing a WHERE clause condition on the field the layout to be used depends on. When using SELECT * to access such a segment the IMS Universal JDBC Driver today adds columns for each field of this segment to the SQL result set - even for those, which can't exist according to the provided WHERE clause condition on the field, the layout to be used with the segments depends on. With this a potential high number of columns is being added, which inevitable contain nothing else than NULL values. This adds processing overhead without any use. Please enhance the IMS Universal JDBC Driver to not process the fields, which can't exist in the SQL result set, when the WHERE clause limits the segments being processed to a specific layout.

It is our mission, within IMS, to deliver high quality code to our clients. Our goal is that this enhancement continues to help drive success for your company!

I am excited to share with you that we have successfully delivered an enhancement that can help with the requested Idea IMSDB-I-115.

This enhancement has been delivered via IMS service process:
    IMS 15 APAR: PH49458 - https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/apar/PH49458

PH49458 adds the ability to only return valid case fields specified by control fields in the WHERE clause. See the APAR information for details on how to use this new feature.

Please share your feedback with us as you implement this enhancement.

    Thank you!

Thank you for your interest in keeping IMS a vital and successful product. Software development has continuously evolved during IMS's lifetime, and so has IMS itself. We have kept pace with, adopted, and implemented many industry standard best practices within our organization, including Continuous Delivery, Design Thinking, and Agile.

When choosing new features to add from the list of requirements in our backlog, we assess which will bring the most value to as many clients as possible and prioritize those.

After reviewing this request for enhancement and assessing its potential value, our decision is to add this item to our backlog. Items in our backlog are expected to be delivered within the next 18 months. We reserve the right to re-prioritize our backlog items as new requests come in. This helps ensure that we are constantly focused on providing the best value to all of our clients.

    Have a great day!
