Enhanced Toolkit Operation

OMEGAMON For Storage allows for many operations against managed data to be performed using the Storage Toolkit. Through the Toolkit z/OS Commands, TSO command and even Batch jobs can be generated with variable substitution and initiated through the product user interfaces. Invocation of the toolkit should be made more seamless by allowing for direct manipulation of a visible attribute. That change in turn can generate whatever action is needed to carry out the update.

After additional review I'd like to revise the primary function desired from this RFE. The focus should be in streamlining invocation of Toolkit driven functions. Some suggestions; at the moment when you right click on an item you get a context sensitive pop-up that allows you to select volume or dataset actions. It would be useful if the actions made available in the pop-up could be modified to include user defined actions. Currently any selected action acts on a single selected item. If the user selects 100 items, right clicks and selects an action 100 individual command or job executions will be built and executed. It would be good if more advanced templates could be constructed. For example multi selecting a group of datasets for a DFSMSdss dump, but being able to direct the selected datasets to an include data set, in proper syntax, to invoke a single job to dump all selected datasets. a similar scenario could have the multi-selected datasets be applied through a repeating element of the template allowing a single job to issue 100 alter commands. Lastly, while context sensitivity is good for organizing common functions, it should not limit access to available attributes. Volumes, datasets, storage groups, Etc. each have unique attributes but they also relate to each other. When a group of datasets are highlighted it should be possible to select from any of the attributes that can be tied back to the original group.
